Long before it was trendy to dress up your teacup poodle to match your outfit, and stick her in your purse as an accessory, Harry Whittier Frees realized that animals dressed as people? Well, that’s just darn cute. He put outfits on the little kittehs and puppehs, then posed them in human situations often with funny little captions. They were published in picture books and as postcards. Cute things are at their cutest when they can’t really completely control their limbs. They’re still all floppy. Why have regular household gardgets when you can have adorable household gadgets in the shape of cute little animals? A question I ask myself now every time I look at my boring, white handled utilitarian can opener. Why, when this toucan can opener (get it? the toucan can?) is just so darn cute.

Everyday in the window between 2 and 4PM, I start to crave a little siesta. Blame it on my time spent living in Madrid, but I find myself in need of a pick me up around the same time every day. Sometimes I grab a latte or a soda. Sometimes I pick up a snack or some candy.

Enter The Daily Kitten. They post a new kitten reliably at 3:07pm, that time when everyone needs a little extra push to make it through the day. This one’s name is Fred. Does anyone else primarily use YouTube to watch videos of cute animals doing cute things? Cats in boxes? Dogs in cake bowls? Hands?

Well, if you’re anything at all like me, then you’ll love Cute Roulette a website that randomly selects a video of animals acting adorable for your viewing pleasure. A friend emailed me the site with one line of text, “This has Janice written all over it.” And you know what? It does. The first cute I got is the helpless little kitteh pictured above. The next? A little something they like to called puppy vs. mirror.

I figured I’d switch things up this week with a cute cat in place of the cute dog. Generally, I’m not a huge cat person. I’ll take the loving canine enthusiasm over standoffish feline toleration any day. But, in this case, I’ll make an exception.

Maru is a fluffy, chubby Japanese cat that has become a youtube sensation. Why? Because he is so stinking cute, and he loves to jump into tiny boxes that are much too small for his furry body.

Besides his leaping talents, Maru is not your average cat. He has his own blog. He has his own book. He has his own channel on youtube, facebook page, and has been featured in the New York Times and Entertainment Weekly. That’s more than you can say for most humans!

Boo’s cuteness from last week is surpassed only by one dog, and that is Mr. Winkle. I have been borderline obsessed with his calendars for years. Take a little pup, dress him up, and I’m yours, especially when his tongue is a little too long for his mouth. While his website leaves a little to be desired, his calendars will not disappoint.
